ACCESS SMART ANNOUNCES POWER LOGON® FOR USE IN EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES Smartcard Provides Students and Administrators Secure User Access Ladera Ranch, CA – Feb. 13, 2008 – Access Smart LLC®, a leading developer of data and security management solutions through the use of smartcard technology, today announced Power LogOn for use in educational facilities. The solution enables the facility’s information technology manager to customize individual smartcards that can be used for identity management, cashless transactions and secure building and network access, providing a wide array of security and amenities for students and administrators. “Campuses today are increasingly facing issues of student identity theft, network security and secure building access,” said Dovell Bonnet, founder and CEO of Access Smart. “In addition, new privacy protection laws now put the burden on schools to secure their networks or face hefty fines. Administrators can also run the program with the school’s network authentication codes stored on a primary server like Active Directory. Since the logon information is invisible to the user, the school can now implement very strong passwords without the user having to know, remember or type them. The cards are customizable and can provide a unique combination of features tailored to meet individual needs of campuses and educational facilities. Administrators can assign variable access privileges to students and faculty to allow individual access to appropriate department files and information sources. They can also revoke and reissue the cards at will, allowing greater control over data access. Karen Clay, information technology director for the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School in Washington, recently implemented Power LogOn to strengthen the school’s network security policies. “By issuing smartcards, we have greater central control over who can access what information at any given time,” said Clay. “Since only IT possesses all logon codes, the risk of information leaking to unauthorized persons is immensely reduced, and students and faculty no longer have to manage various passwords.” The school has issued 1500 cards to date. Future plans for expanding the cards’ functionality include cashless payments for purchases on campus, as well as a program for alumni to remotely access pertinent information. Depending on the customization required, Power Logon can be implemented in as little as a few days or a few weeks.
