Access Smart® Announces Password Management for Magnetic Stripe Cards

Remove the burden and cost of internet security on employees and IT

Ladera Ranch, CA — Mar. 08, 2009 — If you have a credit card, driver’s license, school ID card etc. you can now add password management for internet security without re-issuing a new card. Power LogOn® Administrator with Server Mode by Access Smart makes password management possible for virtually any magnetic stripe card. Imaging the convenience of never having to remember or type another password, the security of very strong passwords, and the saving on IT to stop resetting passwords.

Businesses, healthcare, schools and agencies have a daunting challenge – to secure networks and logon accounts at the point-of-entry with a secure, cost effective and easy-to-use solution. Many of the strong PKI applications are too expensive and time consuming to implement. Power LogOn is an affordable, password management technology that securely safeguards computer, networks, internet and data file access from unauthorized users while reducing IT support cost by 30 to 40%.  Power LogOn is superior to any comparable data access technology in the following ways:

  • Authentication – providing highly secure, double two-factor authentication
  • Ease of Use and Deployment – minimal training, ready to use within days
  • Low Cost of Ownership – no annual fees, no backend server modifications, able to recycle licenses.

Power LogOn is available now and uses the card’s unique ID number along with a customer defined PIN to authenticate into Active Directory, Terminal Services or other database management services. Power LogOn is a cost effective way to comply to the two-factor network authentication recommendations of HIPAA, SOX, FACTA, Red Flag Rule, DHS, and others., including:

  • Logon / Logoff to Windows with a card swipe.
  • Logon to networks, websites and applications with card.
  • Protection from Phishing, Pharming, Spyware, & Keylogger attacks
  • No FIPS card re-certification
  • And much more…

Since Power LogOn Server Mode runs on a secure network, network administrators maintain real-time control over a cardholder's ability to logon to the network. Administrators can "manage" logon entries for cardholders, loading changes and updates to cards, and even “kill” a card that is already in the field. So, if the card is ever lost or stole it will no longer be accepted within the system.

“The creation of the new server mode for magnetic stripe cards was a direct response to our customer needs”, said Dovell Bonnett, founder and CEO of Access Smart. “One of the challenges in the security  industry has always been how to combine employee convenience, IT security and low cost of ownership.”

Power LogOn is upgradeable to smartcard technology as an advanced authentication token, and using a secure network server as the secure storage device. Access to the data is protected by double, two-factor authentication (card & PIN authentication of the user, and card & encryption key authentication of the network). “Because the data itself is secured by multiple layers of strong encryption,” said Mr. Bonnett, “then even if someone steals the card or intercepts network data they cannot read the data.”
