CIO’s Feel the Pressure to Optimize the Online Experience

In an exclusive survey, members of the CIO Forum on LinkedIn have weighed in on the business impact of application performance. These CIOs and IT leaders say they directly associate application performance with end-user and customer satisfaction, along with the potential to increase productivity and lower costs.

In a whitepaper sponsored by CA Technology, “CIO’s Feel the Pressure to Optimize the Online Experience” they conclude that when it comes to computer business applications, there are four areas to achieve buy-in from business leaders:

  • Increase productivity
  • Improve customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrate cost controls and/or savings
  • Support business growth

These are the main points that every CIO and IT leader tests an application to, and what every application developer designs toward.

While I don’t deny these values, in today’s world of data breaches, cyber crimes and privacy legislation, a fifth point has to be Data security/authentication.

Security reports are estimating that the average cost of a breach in 2011 is $7.2 million per incident, or over $210 per record stolen. No business today can accept any software application that does not also include security safeguards to protect against cyber thieves.
